Discontinued by Magpul in 2016.
Remaining UK MoD stock was donated to Ukraine as part of the Operation Interflex training programme.
The EMAG is an export version of the Magpul PMAG (Gen 2) adopted by British Forces.
100,000 EMAGs were initially delivered to UK armed forces in 2011, with a further 1 million being delivered by 2015. The MoD contract mags were issued in transparent bags with a white barcoded rear, distinct to Magpul domestic market packaging, which came in a light brown bag.
It is fractionally slimmer than the standard PMAG, without the waffle pattern grip texture, for use with the HK416 and SA80 (L85, L22 & L98) rifles and features a MagLevel 4 way anti-tilt follower and dustcap.
The Gen 2 Magpul PMAG of the time would not insert cleanly into the SA80/L85 and other EU STANAG types and a smooth sided design was developed for the UK tender which would also be compatible with UK PLCE twin magazine pouches, which became the EMAG export model.
Magpul offered the type to the civilian market until Magpul discontinued the line in 2016, following launch of the M3 PMAG. The M3 update resolved STANAG compatibility issues and worked smoothly with both AR/M4 rifles and European STANAG models such as the L85A2, HK416 and FAMAS G2, even with waffles.
We no longer see these come up at UK MoD surplus auctions, after remaining supplies were donated to Ukrainian troop training programmes.
